Workshop 1: Why change my grading practices now?
In this initial session, participants will consider the role and value of grades in students’ learning processes and experiences, and examine ways in which traditional grading practices can exacerbate inequities. Participants will also begin to explore “alternative” grading strategies and related research on student learning.
Workshop 2: What equity-centered frameworks for assessment and grading are there?
In this workshop, participants will explore and get practice with specific equity-centered grading frameworks and identify opportunities to adjust one or more methods of assessment in their teaching contexts.
Workshop 3: How can I incorporate equitable grading strategies in my teaching practice?
In this final session, participants will discuss and share experiences in implementing equitable assessment practices, and will collaboratively workshop and develop strategies to implement new practices in their own teaching contexts.
Upon completion of all three workshops, participants will receive an electronic EMPOWER badge and recognition of completion.
