  • At Berkeley Engineering, our faculty are critical to the University of California’s mission to serve society as a center of higher learning. As part of the college’s hiring, merit and promotion practices, faculty are evaluated on their contributions to serving a diverse society and creating an inclusive campus climate for all individuals.

To equip our faculty for success, we offer professional development opportunities through the EMPOWER program — providing the knowledge, skills and practice to become agents of change in the classroom, laboratory and beyond. Faculty can also engage with campus’ Faculty Link program, which is designed to build connections and community across campus through events and mentorship.

All departments have faculty equity advisers who are engaged in strategic planning, faculty recruitment and retention; graduate student admission and advancement; and creating a climate of equity and inclusion. Faculty and staff serve on our Council on Inclusive Excellence, along with students, to oversee the planning and implementation of our equity and inclusion programming.
