Graduate Pathways to STEM
Saturday, September 30, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Location: Stanford University
The mission of the Bay Area Graduate Pathways to STEM (GPS) program is to equip diverse, innovative leaders with the access, tools, and skills they need to obtain an advanced engineering and science degree. Bay Area GPS is a one-day conference where students attend informative workshops addressing the benefits of pursuing an advanced degree (both M.S. and Ph.D.) while also preparing for graduate school and the application process. Bay Area GPS is sponsored jointly by the the UC Berkeley College of Engineering and the Stanford School of Engineering.
Why should I attend Bay Area GPS?
Students attending the Bay Area GPS will have access to information for applying to graduate school, understand how graduate school can benefit their education and future goals, learn how to prepare a graduate school application, network with peers who will also be applying to graduate school and meet current students to learn more about life as a graduate student.
Program highlights include:
- Networking
- Finding the right graduate degree
- Graduate school prep
- Funding graduate school
- Lunch with current graduate students
For questions, please email essgrad@berkeley.edu.

General Questions:
Q. I am a ______ (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, community college student, or someone who has already graduated) and I was wondering if GPS is for me and if I should apply?
A. Anyone is invited to apply! This year, GPS is predominantly focused on sophomores and juniors as the presentation and workshops highlight what to-do to become a strong applicant. This does not mean that if you are a freshmen or a senior that your application will not be looked at. Workshops and presentations are informative and beneficial to any level undergraduate.
Q. Is GPS only for engineering students since it is hosted by UC Berkeley and Stanford engineering departments?
A. No, GPS is open to all STEM majors. You do not have to be in engineering in order to participate in this year’s GPS symposium.
Q. Is there a cost to attending GPS?
A. No! This event is free to everyone who attends.
Q. Who can I contact if I have more questions?
A. You can email us at essgrad@berkeley.edu
If you need disability accommodations for the application process, please contact eng-ada@berkeley.edu.
