Finding Research Opportunities as a Community College Student
Thursday, October 20, 4–5 p.m.
Undergraduate research opportunities are a great way to engage with a discipline in a hands-on way, contribute to the knowledge base, “try-on” graduate school, and enhance your transfer application. This session will provide an overview of the Transfer-to-Excellence Research Internship and introduce other ways to secure scientific research opportunities while enrolled in community college.

Berkeley Engineering Faculty Talk with Dr. Matthew Sherburne

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from Dr. Matthew Sherburne of the materials science and engineering department, who will speak about his experience transferring from community college to UC Berkeley and ultimately pursuing his Ph.D. He will also share advice on making the most of campus opportunities, including participating in undergraduate research.

This workshop will allow community college students to work with current UC Berkeley transfer students in breakout rooms, where SWE will be giving personalized peer application advice. Whether students are brainstorming essay topics or making final edits, we would love to see you there! All genders are welcome.

Engineering Science: The Insider’s Guide to Interdisciplinary Studies
Thursday, October 27, 2-3 p.m.
This session will introduce prospective students to the Engineering Science program at UC Berkeley. The session agenda includes a presentation, and Q&A session. The undergraduate program is multi-departmental and interdisciplinary. The majors consist of closely related fields in the natural sciences, mathematics, physics, and engineering. The majors offered within the Engineering Science Program prepare students especially for advanced graduate study in engineering or the natural sciences. Engineering Sciences is comprised of four majors: Energy Engineering, Engineering Mathematics and Statistics, Engineering Physics, and Environmental Engineering Science.

Materials Science & Engineering – Presentation, Faculty and Student Panels, and Q&A
Friday, November 4, 12–1:30 p.m.
This session is designed to introduce students to materials science and engineering and how it relates to other engineering and science disciplines, as well as meet some of our faculty. You will learn about the areas of materials science, research and career/internship opportunities. You will also learn the different career paths materials science has and what those have meant to each faculty member. There will be a brief presentation, time for a question and answer session, and panels with faculty and current students.
