Creating a sustainable future
Dear Berkeley Engineering alum,
On Feb. 29, 2024, UC Berkeley officially closed its Light the Way campaign with an extraordinary fundraising total exceeding $7 billion, well surpassing the original ambitious goal of $6 billion set four years ago. I’m very happy to share that $900 million of that total was given to Berkeley Engineering by alumni and friends like you.
I’m grateful that so many members of our community stepped up to support our transformative research and education programs. As a result, the college has been able to break ground for a new Engineering Center that will house engineering student services and a host of co-curricular programs, fund 29 new endowed chairs for faculty, create 11 new endowed fellowships for graduate students, and much more.
Philanthropic gifts have enabled us to support an increasing number and diversity of students to thrive at Berkeley, and to recruit outstanding new faculty members who are advancing the frontiers of engineering to solve society’s greatest challenges. Among the updates you’ll see in this newsletter are examples of how members of our community are working to address climate change and sustainability.
Thank you for being a part of our community — and Go Bears!
