08/01/17 — Clarity, competitiveness and connections. The three C's that the UC Berkeley Career Center are focused on when working with students as they develop their education outside of the classroom. This week we are thrilled to have Katie Crawford and Angie Luo, UC Berkeley career advisers, who work with engineering students on campus. They introduce us to the events, programs and resources that are available to students in the College of Engineering from the Career Center. Also, learn some tips and advice of how to prepare for your post-Berkeley career before you get to Berkeley in the fall.

07/25/17 — Engineering Scholars as Engaged Scholars (ES²) is a first-year program that fosters an engineering culture that reflects our richly diverse national community and prepares students to be engaged, well-rounded citizens. Engineering Scholars is accepting applications now and we thought it would be a great time to discuss the program, the course that is part of being an Engineering Scholar and social justice for engineers with Khalid Kadir, lecturer at UC Berkeley.

07/18/17 — How do you make the most of your time at Cal? We've covered a lot about academics but how about outside the classroom? How do you meet people, feel comfortable on campus and create a new life chapter that is fun and engaging? This week we have Sharon Mueller, Kathy Barrett and Jane Paris joining with their tips on how to Make Connections whether it is through Golden Bear Orientation, students in your dorm or student organizations that share your interests.

07/11/17 — Now that you’ve registered you probably have questions about what to do now. This week, Sharon Mueller, Director of Advising and Policy and Kathy Barrett, Associate Director of Advising for Engineering Student Services join The (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer this week to discuss “What’s Next!” In this episode, Sharon and Kathy go over the adjustment period, shopping for classes, Golden Bear Prep, Golden Bear Orientation and more. Take a listen as you find out how to continue making the best choices for classes in your first semester at UC Berkeley.

07/05/17 — This week on the (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer we are talking about registration. Beginning next week all incoming freshmen and transfer students will be registering for their fall classes. Almost everyone has gone through Golden Bear Advising and has heard back from their ESS adviser, so it is time to double check your registration appointment on CalCentral and actually register. Chaniqua Butscher, ESS Adviser and Laura Vogt, Communications Manager are going over some last minute tips to help make your registration process easier and get you the best schedule for your first semester.

06/27/17 — This week on the (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer, we are switching it from last week and talking with students that began their Cal career as transfer students. Transfer students have some of the same struggles but with a twist since they are starting as juniors. We spoke with three students that have different interests, majors and backgrounds to give you insight into how they are making their time as a Berkeley Engineer successful. 06/20/17 — This week on the (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer, we are taking a look at what to expect in your first year at Cal from the freshman perspective. Between juggling classes, navigating a new environment, and making new friends and study groups, jumping into Berkeley Engineering can seem daunting. Two engineering students join us to offer tips, tricks, and guidance from a student’s perspective on how to make the transition to Berkeley a little smoother. Tune in to begin your Berkeley Engineering journey with a head start.

06/13/17 — Tiffany Reardon, Associate Director for Retention Programs, Engineering Student Services joins us again today to go over some suggestions for how you can prepare for Berkeley Engineering this summer. Topics include: refreshing your math and other subject skills through test banks and watching Berkeley lectures; learning to code with free online resources; researching professors that you'll be learning from and getting familiar with their journal articles and technical writing; and finally, getting to know your major better.  Knowing why you are having to take the lower division courses that are required will make the subject matter more enjoyable.

06/06/17 — Today we are talking with Amy Dinh and Laura Mitchell from the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation. They are discussing the courses available to incoming frosh and transfer students, the Maker Pass program and more. The home of the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation expands the role of design in engineering education at Berkeley. No matter what field of engineering you’re in, you’ll get hands-on practice with design automation, rapid prototyping, and team-based learning. You’ll be challenged to approach the entire cycle of design, manufacturing and end-user needs from an integrated vantage point.

05/30/17 — The Pre-Engineering Program (PREP) and the Transfer Pre-Engineering Program both have application deadlines coming up. PREP's application is due June 1 and T-PREP's is due June 15. Today we had the programs' director, Tiffany Reardon, in for a chat about the program. She explains for whom the program will be the most useful, what the schedule looks like and what is new about it this year. We also have a couple of interviews with current students who were part of PREP and T-PREP to give you an idea of how excited they were to be part of the program and why they think it is worth the time to apply. If you have more questions or concerns please email Tiffany Reardon.
