Our mission and values

At Berkeley Engineering, our mission is to educate leaders, create knowledge and serve society. Founded in 1868, we:

  • Transform the lives of our students by preparing them to become successful leaders and innovators for positive change.
  • Expand knowledge and create transformative technology through original research to tackle the world’s biggest challenges.
  • Work toward a transformed society, in which all members can thrive, through service to government, industry and the engineering professions.

At the core of our mission are values that drive us to educate inclusive leaders and create knowledge equitably in service of a diverse society. We invent, design and build solutions for the greater good, and we do this together as a community.
