Majors and minors

If you’re considering coming to Berkeley Engineering — or if you’re already here — you know we offer numerous opportunities. And your options are growing: The field of engineering is multiplying every day, in all kinds of interesting directions, and we have majors — single and multiple — to make the most of your engineering education.

Single majors

Berkeley Engineering offers 11 single majors, each one taught by faculty who are the preeminent teachers and researchers in their fields. When you’re accepted to the College of Engineering, you’ll be admitted directly to one of the bachelor of science programs listed below. Each one will make you think and work harder than you’ve ever thought possible. So explore each major and think carefully about how it reflects your own interests and skill sets. If you’re going to be working that hard, you might as well love what you’re doing.

If you’re a prospective freshman who is still exploring engineering, you can apply to the Engineering-Undeclared option.

Other major options

Students admitted as freshmen may apply for a joint major or double major after spending one year at Berkeley. Students admitted as junior transfers who can show, after one semester at Berkeley, that they can complete a joint major in the time allotted, and who meet GPA requirements, should consult with their Engineering Student Services adviser about the possibility of applying to a joint program. Minors: If you’re not up for two full degrees but want to define your degree with a second area of interest, you can declare a minor.
Change of major: If you’re already in the College of Engineering and want to change direction, find out how.
Change of college: If you’re not in the College of Engineering and want to apply for one of the majors, find out how.
